The Board of Trustees of Muslim Aid reviewed the performance of the Charity at its Annual General Meeting held in London on 14 July 2012. It welcomed the increase in the overall income of the Charity, including grants in kind, from the previous year. The Board also noted that Muslim Aid has built up a strong reserve of unrestricted funds to finance development projects worldwide tackling poverty and restoring human dignity.
The Board elected a new Executive Committee for a term of 2 years. The new Office Bearers are: Dr Manazir Ahsan MBE – Chairman, Dr Suhaib Hasan – Vice-Chairman, Mr AKM Abdussalam – Treasurer and Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari – Secretary, with Sir Iqbal Sacranie OBE, Mr S M T Wasti, Dr Jafer Qureshi, Mr Farooq Murad and Dr A M Katme making up the rest of the Executive Committee.
The newly-elected Chairman, Dr Ahsan said: “I am indeed humbled to have been given this enormous responsibility. As the Chairman of a premier British Muslim relief and development agency, I look forward to building upon the considerable past achievements of Muslim Aid toward its vision to create a world where charity and compassion produce justice, self reliance and human development. My sincere request to all our donors and supporters is to continue to be our strength in alleviating poverty and responding to emergencies.”
The Board of Trustees expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the outgoing Chairman, Sir Iqbal Sacranie, for his strong leadership, untiring efforts and invaluable contribution to the work of the Charity. Sir Iqbal has completed his two terms which is the maximum allowed under the Constitution.
